Ms.Rasha Abu-El-Ruz
Teaching Assistant Ms. Rasha Abu-El-Ruz, currently holds a Teaching Assistant position at College of Health Sciences, Qatar University. Was granted her undergraduate degree in Allied sciences from BAU, Jordan, and then capped it with a major specialization in Applied Microbiology from the University of Toronto, Canada. Post-graduation journey was comprehensive and vigorous which diverged two tracks; clinical settings exemplified in hospital laboratories and educational settings at various academic healthcare foundations in Canada, through which, Ms. Rasha obtained several Canadian certifications and became an active member in the CSMLS and the OSMT. Besides, she completed a post-graduate degree in Human Resources specialized in Occupational Health and Safety from York University, Canada. Following four years of teaching experience in Canadian colleges, Ms. Rasha pursued her MSc degree in Infectious Diseases from the University of London UK. Next to her move to the state of Qatar, Ms. Rasha got involved in several research activities and subsequently; won the first award in the QU research forum, second award in the health-retreat at QU, supervised undergraduate research students and contributed to “Oral Cancer” book chapter as a first author.
Dr.Abdullatif Husseini
Adjunct Professor Abdullatif Husseini: PhD, MPH, MS, is an Adjunct Professor of Public Health at the College of Health Sciences- Qatar University. Dr. Husseini was the main founder of the MPH program and the coordinator of the BSc Public Health Program at Qatar University. Abdullatif taught classical epidemiology, advanced epidemiology, research methods, and introduction to public health among other courses. Abdullatif’s research interests include epidemiology of non-communicable diseases and their risk factors. He also conducts training courses for health professionals, and advocates for the application of research into teaching, policy and practice.
Ms.Nancy Milan
Teaching Assistant Ms Nancy Milan received her B.Sc. in nutrition and food sciences at the American University of Beirut and went on to pursue her masters in nutrition at the American University of Beirut as well. Nancy will be mainly teaching the labs in the Human nutrition department.
Dr.Karam Turk-Adawi
Assistant Professor Dr. Karam Turk-Adawi is Assistant Professor of Public Health at the College of Health Science. She undertook her doctoral studies in Health Policy at Brandeis University, MA, USA. She earned a Master's degree in Public Health from Al-Quds University/Palestine and in Social Science from Brandeis University/USA. She was a recipient of the Palestinian Faculty Development Program Scholarship in 2006. Dr. Turk-Adawi is experienced in multi-national public health research. She recently holds a co-lead position in conducting a global cardiac rehabilitation survey with experts from the International Council of Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation (ICCPR) and Mayo Clinic. She also co-authored a consensus statement on developing a cardiac rehabilitation model in low-resource settings with the ICCPR. This project stems from the ICCPR collaboration with the World Heart Federation.
Dr. Turk-Adawi has published articles in top-tier health journals, such as Nature Reviews: Cardiology; Heart; Progress in Cardiovascular Disease, and Journal of American Heart Association. Her research interests include health policy, international healthcare services, and cardiovascular disease prevention with a focus on provision and implementation of cardiac rehabilitation programs in developed and less-developed countries. Before joining Qatar University, Dr. Turk-Adawi taught at the School of Health and Policy Management, York University, Canada.
Dr.Manar Elhassan
Associate Professor Manar Elhassan is trained and expert in Biostatistics and Epidemiology and was awarded a PhD from Boston University (USA), an MSc in Statistics from University of Kent at Canterbury (UK) and a BSc in Statistics and Computer Science from University of Khartoum (Sudan). She is currently an associate professor of Biostatistics at the Department of Public Health, College of Health Sciences, Qatar University. She previously worked on cancer survival of Atomic bomb survivors at the Radiation Effects Research foundation in Hiroshima (Japan). She also worked on cancer survival at the Non-communicable Disease Epidemiology Unit at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (UK). Manar was previously employed at the Faculty of Mathematical Sciences, University of Khartoum holding positions of Head of Statistics Department, Deputy Dean and Dean of the Faculty. Over the past decade, Manar has been involved with household surveys, mainly Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS) and Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS). She served as household survey expert for many countries as well as the regional consultant for UNICEF Middle East and North Africa Region. Her research interests include discrete data analysis, survival analysis, epidemiology, statistical modeling, clinical trials and analysis of complex survey data on women and children health.
Dr.Mohammed Fasihul Alam
Assistant Professor Dr. Alam has a PhD in Operational Research (Cranfield University), an MSc in Health Economics and Health Policy (University of Birmingham) and an MSc in Statistics (University of Chittagong). Before joining QU, Dr. Alam was a Senior Research Fellow in Health Economics at Swansea University and the University of South Wales, UK and an Assistant Professor at the University of Chittagong. Dr. Alam has more than 20 years of experience in academic teaching and research in Health Economics, Statistics, Operational Research and Decision Modelling. He has taught health economics and decision modelling on graduate and post-graduate levels courses at Cardiff and Swansea Universities, and currently co-supervise three PhD projects. His research covers economic evaluation of healthcare programmes and health technology assessment, economic evaluations alongside RCTs and decision analytical modelling, and has published in Lancet, British Medical Journal, Health Technology Assessment, BMC Public Health, etc. Externally, Dr. Alam was an independent health economist of the All Wales Medicine Strategy Group (AWMSG), UK. He is on the editorial board of the Health Economics and Outcome Research: Open Access journal, and a reviewer for the NIHR HTA and Public Health Programme, Value in Health, PLOS ONE, BMC Public Health, BMC Health Services Research, Simulation Modelling Practice and Theory.
Dr.Gianfranco Pintus
Associate Professor Before join the Qatar University Dr. Pintus was Associate Professor of Biochemistry and Head of the Laboratory of Cell Signaling and Redox Biology at the Department of Biomedical Sciences, University of Sassari, Italy. He received his M.Sc. from the University of Sassari, and his Ph.D. from the University of Bologna, Italy. His postdoctoral training includes an internship in organic chemistry at the National Research Council and a Biochemistry research training at the Institute of Biochemistry, University of Sassari. He spent three years working at the Laboratory of Cardiovascular Science, National Institute on Aging, National Institutes of Health, Baltimore USA. Dr. Pintus has authored and co-authored more than 75 publications in peer-reviewed journals. His teaching experience encompasses Biochemistry, Molecular and Cell Biology, Cell and Tissue Culture Methods and Applications. His research interests include Oxidative stress, Cellular Redox State and Antioxidants, including Natural Antioxidants. Signal Transduction and Redox-regulated Signal Transduction. Vascular Biology, including Vascular Remodeling during Aging and Aging-related Diseases. Dr. Pintus is honorary Senior Research Fellow at the University of Bristol UK, and Visiting Professor at the University of Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Dr. Pintus has tutored, and he is currently tutoring BSc, MSc and PhD students, as well as mentoring post-docs and young researchers. Dr. Pintus received several research grants and he is a member of the Editorial Board of different journals including PlosONE and JIDC.
Dr.Vijay Ganji
Associate Professor Dr. Ganji comes from Atlanta, USA. Received MS and PhD from the Universoty of Nebraska, Lincoln, USA. He specializes in the area of fortification of foods and health; and vitamin D and health.
Ms.Asmaa El-Heneidy
Teaching Assistant Asmaa is initially a pharmacist, has a bachelor degree in pharmaceutical sciences from Mansoura University in Egypt. She earned her Masters degree in Public Health (MPH) with subspecialty in Health Promotion from Wollongong University in Australia in 2015. Immediately after her graduation she worked as a research assistant in the Centre for Applied Health Economics in Griffith University, Australia. Asmaa research interests within the field of public health encompass several areas, particularly childhood obesity and allergic diseases.
Dr.Mashael Al-Shafai
Assistant Professor Dr Mashael Al-Shafai is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the College of Health Sciences at Qatar University. She received her Bachelor degree in Human Genetics from the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom in 2009, and joint in the same year the Research Division at Qatar Foundation as a Research Analyst. She acquired her Ph.D Degree from Imperial College London in 2016. Her research interests lie in the area of medical genetics, particularly the genetics and epigenetics of rare monogenic disorders as well as the common complex diseases like obesity and T2D. She has a number of publications in peer-reviewed journals, among those, a Nature Genetics paper that investigated the role of copy number variations at the α-amylase gene in the predisposition to obesity. Dr Mashael won the Education day Award by Shaikh Abdullah Bin Khalifa Al-Thani in 2004 and the 2nd best poster presentation award for the division of health in the Annual Research Conference (ARC) in 2014.
