Vessels and Boats
The Research Vessel “Janan” is a generous donation presented to QU by H.H. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the Emir of State of Qatar. For Qatari Environment researchers in general and marine studies in particular, Janan is a dream that has come into reality. The Vessel is equipped with stunning, cutting-edge technologies in the field of oceanic sciences, and is expected to advance marine environmental studies and research in Qatar and the Gulf Region as well.
The “Janan” inherits a rich legacy of research and studies conducted by the “Mukhtabar Al Bihar”, which had been sailing in Qatari Waters for more than 3 decades. The new vessel was built in the Vigo shipyard of Freire, the world-famous manufacturer of scientific research vessels, in cooperation with Qatari experts so that it complies with Qatar’s Environmental conditions.
Janan launches a new era of research that is expected to attract new Qatari scholars who will conduct further studies on Qatar’s waters and its natural resources. Students and faculty will also benefit from Vessel’s modern technologies and laboratories. Qatar and its people are proud about the future and potential of “Janan”.
